Abeokuta, Ogun State, September 2026. The AMIR Fund's Fund for Social Intervention, Humanity and Emergency, delivered through the AMIR Zakat Foundation, has completed its 2026 community support exercise with Dawah Front of Nigeria (Abeokuta chapter). It is the sixth edition of the partnership. Items were presented to recipients on Sunday, 17 May 2026, at Egba Central Mosque, Kobiti, Abeokuta.
The process opened on 5 March 2026 with a public call for expressions of interest. A committee first interviewed applicants who had been held over from the 2025 exercise, then ran a second round of interviews between 21 March and 1 May 2026.
- 73 applications received
- 64 applicants interviewed
- 50 applicants approved: 38 women and 12 men
- 45 recipients supported immediately, with 5 more scheduled for the next phase
- 14 applications declined, with some referred to the Dawah Front Cooperative Society for further help
Recipients received the tools and stock they asked for to start or grow a business: freezers, sewing and stoning machines, industrial and grinding machines, generators, laptops, a laminating machine, clothing materials and provisions. Students and people facing health needs were also supported.
The committee spent 93% of the funds released on items for recipients and 7% on logistics, including interviews, market surveys and procurement.
The committee reported a steady rise in applications, especially from women, which it linked to the economic pressure many households face. It thanked the AMIR Zakat Foundation for being a dependable partner.
“Every freezer or sewing machine here is a small business that can now feed a family,” said Ridwan Sorunke, Founder and Trustee of the AMIR Fund. “We want to keep this support practical, fair and focused on people who will use it to stand on their own.”
