Secondary School Prizes & Scholarships
Since 2025, an annual Prize Giving Day has revived the school’s tradition of celebrating excellence in both the Junior and Senior schools.
Excellence deserves to be seen
African Church Grammar School, Abeokuta, is where both AMIR Fund founders began. For years the school marked academic achievement with a Prize Giving Day, and then the tradition stopped. Students who worked hardest had no public moment of recognition, and parents and teachers lost an occasion to celebrate them.
In September 2025 the AMIR Fund signed Memoranda of Understanding with the Junior and Senior schools and brought the Prize Giving Day back. A second edition followed on 30 September 2026. Each year, the prizes reward effort in the classroom, on the sports field and in teaching, and the best students receive support to take the next step.
Every award is backed by the Fund's endowment, so the ceremony can return year after year:
- Subject prizes for the best student in each subject, SS1 and SS2
- Overall Best Student prizes, with a scholarship for the next year and sponsorship of WAEC, NECO and JAMB
- Recognition for the highest JAMB score
- Tolu Oyagbesan Prize and Yetunde Adisa Prize for the best science students
- Prize for Sport and Physical Development
- Prize for Teaching Excellence, voted by students
- Academic and career mentorship for top performers

“When I discovered this ceremony had stopped, I felt something valuable was missing.”
